Indulge in the perfect blend of flavors and health with our Grilled Sardines recipe. Succulent sardines marinated in zesty lemon and garlic, charred to perfection on the grill—a delectable seafood delight awaits.
Ingredients:
- 12 fresh sardines, cleaned and gutted
- 2-3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 lemon, zested and juiced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh herbs (such as parsley or cilantro) for garnish (optional)
Instructions:
- Prepare the Sardines:
- Start by rinsing the sardines under cold running water and patting them dry with paper towels.
- Use a sharp knife to make a few diagonal cuts on each side of the sardines. This will help them cook more evenly and absorb the flavors better.
- Marinate the Sardines:
- In a bowl, mix the minced garlic, lemon zest, lemon juice, olive oil, salt, and pepper to create a marinade.
- Place the sardines in a shallow dish and pour the marinade over them. Make sure the sardines are evenly coated with the mixture. Let them marinate for about 15-30 minutes at room temperature. You can also marinate them in the refrigerator for a few hours if you have more time.
- Preheat the Grill:
- While the sardines are marinating, preheat your grill to medium-high heat. If using charcoal, wait until the coals are white and glowing.
- Grill the Sardines:
- Once the grill is hot, lightly oil the grill grates to prevent the sardines from sticking.
- Place the marinated sardines on the grill, skin side down.
- Grill the sardines for about 3-4 minutes per side, or until they are cooked through and have nice grill marks. Be gentle when flipping them to avoid breaking the delicate flesh.
- Serve:
- Transfer the grilled sardines to a serving platter and garnish with fresh herbs, if desired.
- You can also serve them with extra lemon wedges for a burst of citrus flavor.
Grilled sardines are best enjoyed hot off the grill. They make a great appetizer or main course, served with a side salad or some crusty bread. Enjoy your delicious and nutritious meal!
