Sushi is a traditional Japanese dish made with vinegared rice combined with various fillings, such as seafood, vegetables, and condiments. It is typically wrapped in seaweed (nori) and sliced into bite-sized pieces.
Ingredients:
- Sushi rice (2 cups)
- Nori sheets (seaweed)
- Fresh vegetables of your choice (such as cucumber, avocado, or carrot)
- Soy sauce
- Wasabi
- Pickled ginger
- Rice vinegar
- Sugar
- Salt
Instructions:
Prepare the vegetables:
- Cut the vegetables into thin matchstick-like pieces.
- Place the vegetables in a separate bowl for easy assembly.
Assemble the sushi rolls:
- Lay a bamboo sushi mat on a clean surface.
- Place a sheet of nori on the mat, shiny side down.
- Moisten your hands with water to prevent sticking, and grab a handful of sushi rice.
- Spread the rice evenly over the nori, leaving a small border at the top.
- Add your desired vegetables in a line across the center of the rice.
Roll the sushi:
- Lift the edge of the mat closest to you and roll it over the vegetables, applying gentle pressure.
- Continue rolling while pulling the mat away until you reach the end of the nori.
- Press the mat gently to seal the roll.
Slice and serve:
- Use a sharp knife to slice the roll into bite-sized pieces.
- Repeat the process with the remaining ingredients.
- Serve the rolls with soy sauce, wasabi, and pickled ginger.
